Since 1999, the College of Education & Health Professions has graduated Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) majors in Ross Hall after urban University of Arkansas at Little Rock training that strengthens generalist practice skills. Directed by Dr. Stephen Kapp, the 120-credit, upper-level program caps courses like Human Diversity, Social Welfare Policy, Addictions, and Social Psychology at 25 students in-person or online with the SREB Electronic Campus. Three 2+2 options are available from Pulaski Technical College, National Park Community College, and University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana. The Master in Social Work (MSW) accredited in 1969 trains evening or online post-grads to lead initiatives empowering the oppressed. Coordinated by Dr. Catherine Crisp, the 43-60 credit curriculum concentrates courses in Advanced Direct Practice or Management & Community Practice. Field practicum placements, such as Encompass Health, Ozark Guidance, Amedisys, UAMS Hospital, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Dorcas House, and Family Service Agency, must total 480 to 1,200 clock hours. Other opportunities include minoring in Gerontology, joining the SSWO, exchanging to FH Joanneum University, attending the Sexual Assault Healthcare Conference, researching in the Anderson Institute on Race, and volunteering with Children International.
About the University of Arkansas at Little Rock
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock originated in 1927 as the "Jaycee" by John A. Larson at Little Rock High School for around 100 junior-level college students. First accredited in 1929, it was bequeathed $2 million from Governor George Donaghey that year. Two decades later, Business Hall of Famer Raymond Rebsamen donated land to break ground on today's 57-building Oak Forest campus. In 1957, it became Little Rock University when the first four-year bachelor's developed. The University of Arkansas system welcomed it in 1969 to become the state's leading public, metropolitan site. University of Arkansas at Little Rock Accreditation Details
On February 24, 2020, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock will undergo the next institutional review from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) to update the Quality Enhancement Plan for Level VI accreditation under its 10th chancellor, Dr. Andrew Rogerson, a National Science Foundation Grant recipient. Located 655 miles north via Interstate 57 in Chicago, this mammoth 19-state Midwest accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to certify the effectiveness of UALR's 10 associate, 67 baccalaureate, 49 master's, 11 doctoral, and 49 certificate options. The College of Education & Health Professions also faces accreditation review by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in June 2020.
University of Arkansas at Little Rock Application Requirements
Enrollment to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is labeled "minimally difficult" by Peterson's despite 59 percent acceptance that allowed 1,038 of the 1,751 Fall 2017 candidates. Undergrad Trojans must attain sophomore status before declaring the Bachelor in Social Work major for junior year. Among the 50 lower-division credits must be Speech Communication, Evolutionary Biology, Abnormal Psychology, and Introduction to Sociology. Grades above "C" in SOWK 1300 are prerequisite. Overall grade point averages of 2.5 and higher are expected. The 2+2 Option mandates graduating with an Associate of Arts or Science degree. Only Arkansas residents qualify for the online bachelor's too. MSW cohorts need liberal arts baccalaureates and 3.0 GPAs at regionally accredited institutions. Having passed the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) in the last five years is necessary. The 12-month Advanced Standing Program is restricted for BSW graduates with 3.5 GPAs and 400+ field hours.
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock's School of Social Work has a BSW deadline of February 1st at 5:00PM for mid-May acceptance notifications. Aspiring Master in Social Work majors meet Graduate School deadlines of August 1st for Fall, December 15th for Spring, or May 1st for Summer.
