Given the 2013 HBCU Award for Best Social Work Program, Fayetteville State's MSW deepens clinical practice skills for post-grad leadership in two distinct concentrations: Children and Family Services or Mental Health. Overseen by Dr. Dennis Corbin, the 61-credit, non-thesis program produces Certified Master Social Workers capable of assisting at-risk populations, especially of color. Courses like Human Services Management, Substance Abuse, and Research Methods meet at the Lauretta J. Taylor Building in evenings or on weekends. Fayetteville State University was originally opened in 1867 on Gillespie Street as the Howard School after seven African-American men pooled $136 each. First named for the Freedmen's Bureau Chief General, it was rechartered 10 years later as the State Colored Normal School. Charles W. In Spring 2011, Fayetteville State University underwent an institutional review from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to reaffirm the max 10-year Level V accreditation under Chancellor James A. Anderson, who received the 2016 AABHE Harold Delaney Exemplary Leadership Award. Located 373 miles west in Decatur, this 11-state Atlantic Coast accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to continually check FSU's 39 baccalaureate, nine master's, one doctoral, and 20 certificate offerings. The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) also extended its Fayette programmatic approval through June 2019.

Fayetteville State University Application Requirements

Admission to Fayetteville State University is labeled "moderately difficult" on Peterson's since just 2,733 of the 4,611 Fall 2016 applicants were okayed for 59 percent acceptance. First-year Broncos stampeding the Social Work BSW program must finish 64 credits of general education. Prerequisite courses, such as SWRK 230, must be graded "C" or better. Averages falling below the 2.5 mark require a committee interview. Juniors and transfers can waive the required 880 SAT or 17 ACT score. Fayetteville Technical Community College A.A. grads are guaranteed BSW spots thanks to an articulation agreement too. The MSW mandates accredited bachelor's study with 18 social sciences credits and 3.0 upper-level GPAs. Submitting GRE General Section scores less than five years old to the University Testing Services Center is also needed.
